HTC Vive Standalone to enter international market in 2017

According to HTC, the Vive Standalone VR headset will be introduced in China and on the Western market before the end of 2017.

As announced by the manufacturer, the HTC Vive Standalone works without being tethered to additional devices: a smartphone or a PC. All software for graphical data processing is installed in the gadget. However, the company doesn’t specify technical characteristics. It is only known that the device will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and the set will contain a three-degrees-of-freedom controller.

Developers reported that the main difference of this helmet for the Chinese and Western audience is software. Chinese users will get a content through the Viveport, all the rest – through the Google Daydream due to Google restrictions in China.

The exact release dates of both versions are not specified but it is known that they will appear on the market in 2017.
